Food Poisoning Crisis Hits Mathura: Over 120 Hospitalized
Just days earlier, over 120 people, including women and children, were hospitalized in Mathura after a severe bout of food poisoning linked to buckwheat flour consumption. The food poisoning outbreak occurred on Janmashtami, a major Hindu festival, when many were fasting and consuming traditional foods like ‘puris’ and ‘pakodas.’
In response to the outbreak, the District Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided and sealed the shops of two vendors who supplied the contaminated buckwheat flour. A case has been filed against them. The affected individuals, who experienced vomiting, dizziness, and shivering, were initially treated at the Farah Community Health Centre before being transferred to the District Hospital, the Joint Hospital in Vrindavan, and SN Medical College in Agra as the situation worsened.
Dr. Bhudev Prasad, in charge of the Health Department’s Rapid Response Team, stated that the department acted quickly to address the food poisoning cases and ensure proper treatment for all victims.
