Complaint Filed Against Mamata Banerjee Over Controversial Warning to PM Modi

A legal complaint has been lodged against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following her incendiary remarks at a political event on Wednesday. The complaint, submitted to Delhi Police by Supreme Court lawyer Vineet Jindal, accuses Banerjee of making provocative statements that could incite unrest and threaten national unity.

During a Trinamool Chhatra Parishad event, Banerjee reportedly warned that if Bengal faced turmoil, other states such as Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi would also suffer. “Remember, if Bengal burns, then Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also burn,” she stated.

Jindal’s complaint argues that Banerjee’s comments are inflammatory and could stir regional hatred and enmity, endangering public order and national harmony. He has called for an FIR to be filed under sections relating to promoting enmity and disrupting public peace.

The remarks came in response to a 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ organized by the BJP, which Banerjee criticized as a ploy to malign West Bengal. She also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to incite unrest in the state through his party.

In her speech, Banerjee compared the situation to protests in Bangladesh, though she stressed the cultural ties between Bengal and Bangladesh. She warned that Modi’s actions could spark broader unrest across various Indian states.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned Banerjee’s remarks, accusing her of spreading divisive politics. “How dare you threaten Assam?” Sarma posted on X, urging Banerjee to avoid stoking discord with her comments.

BJP state president and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar also criticized Banerjee, labeling her statements as an endorsement of “revenge politics” and an attack on national integrity. Majumdar argued that as a chief minister, Banerjee should rise above partisan rhetoric and avoid making statements that could undermine democracy.
